Tori Amos

Tori (Myra Ellen) Amos

"You're just an empty cage girl if you kill the bird" -Tori Amos

Tori Amos is a singer/ song writer/ composer, and is a classically trained pianist who has been playing since she was two years old. She was admitted into the Peabody institute at the age of five; although she was expelled at the age of eleven for a variety of reasons. She has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards, as well as many others, in her career that has spanned more than thirty years. Tori has inspired two Neil Gaiman characters Death and Delirium. Tori Amos has an authorized autobiography, as well as some unauthorized and authorized biographies, and her music has inspired many other artists to create projects such as "Comic Book Tattoo". She has spent much of her career as a pianist in the world of Alternative rock which is heavily dominated by guitars, and has been quite successful despite great pressure to conform.

Tori Amos spends a great deal of time on tour and she has a devoted group of fans who have seen her perform many times; In some cases more than 100 concert attendances each. Her concert is a very unique experience since many of her regular songs are not found on a major release, and she often does covers as well as improv. During her concert she usually has a section dedicated to just herself and her piano without her back-up band, and she nearly always gives an encore or more. To this day she still takes some time before of after her show for a meet and greet with some of her fans. She has been a spokesperson for the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) since 1994 as she herself is a survivor of sexual assault.

For a general overview of Tori Amos' career this is a great resource, as you might expect, and is a great place for a quick biography, discography, etc.

Here is a great resource for keeping up to date on what projects Tori is officially working on. You can also find a lot of pictures, tour dates, merchandise and other things here.

This is my favorite fan page, it gets its name from a wonderful song on a the Crucify single. On this site you will find a very detailed discography including singles, soundtrack appearances, collaborations, Tori quotes, etc. A really great resource is hidden at the bottom of the page in "The Vault" where you can go to the "Diagnosed Sounds" section and listen to some very rare recordings, mostly concert, of Tori Amos music.
